About CCARES

CCARES is an operating division of ARAST whose focus is public service activities
and emergency and civic radio communications. CCARES is led by the Emergency Coordinator as appointed by the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL). The EC is
responsible for the day-to-day operation of CCARES and is the primary contact with the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service and local organizations requesting CCARES assistance.

The CCARES mission is to develop and maintain the leadership, organizational
structure and trained personnel necessary to support the emergency communications
objectives of the government and public service agencies serving the Chemung County area of the State of New York.

CCARES Meetings

CCARES meets at 1900 local time on the first Tuesday of each month at Harris Hill House (H3) – former Caretaker’s house next to the Soaring Museum (41 Soaring Hill Dr., Elmira, NY).

CCARES Training Nets

The CCARES Net meets at 2000 local time on all other Tuesdays on the 147.360 (+0.6 PL 123) repeater, or another repeater designated by the EC, for the purposes of training and practice in amateur radio emergency procedures, including traffic handling, radiograms, and emergency preparedness.

SKYWARN

CCARES encourages members to be trained to be SKYWARN spotters through the local NWS office. In the event that a severe weather event impacts Chemung County or the surrounding area, any member may start a SKYWARN net on a club repeater to collect storm and damage reports. The SKYWARN NCS will then relay these reports to the Binghamton NWS forecast office.
